I ran across this book while googling around looking for W. African novels. I have a personal interest in African novels, most especially W. Africa. The great reviews on this autobiographical tale of a young girl growing up in what seemed to be a tranquil environment was indeed a journey in reading for me. Liberia's uppercrust and the world they lived in seemed so far removed from the common Liberian man/woman, that it could not end in anything less than one of the worse wars known to present day W. African history. Don't run from this book just because I mentioned war torn Africa. If you read it you will see Liberia through the eyes of our author and the effects it had on her family. And keep in mind that Liberia was a country founded by America. Liberians seem to have not forgotten this, why have we?
Peace
